Friday dawned with a welcome cool rain after another week of torrid humidity. On Tuesday, I did go to The Sunshine Club at the Alton, New Hampshire Senior Center for our weekly sew-in.
Sue, below, had found a bargain fabric at a yard sale and she decided to join me by making some hourglass blocks like mine.
After getting the fabrics all nicely cut into 10" squares, she ironed the center diagonal line on the muslin ones.
Sue used the edge of her presser foot to line up on the folded line and stitched, which made the line of stitching a scant ¼" away from the diagonal fold that she had pressed into the 10" square.
After doing one side, she flipped it around to the other side and stitched down that side, too. The fold then becomes the cutting line. If you'd like to see the whole Missouri Star Quilt Company tutorial the link is here.
Sue also scored a wonderful 1970's vintage quilt that was partially hand quilted with big stitches and she'd like to try finishing it. Quilt Rescue!!!
Pauline was in good spirits and healing up nicely after her rotary cutting accident the week before and showed us her finished frilly knitted scarf. Nice job, Pauline!!!
I gave a brief demonstration of how to do diagonal string blocks and mine are all neutrals this time. If you'd like to see how to do them here is the link.
Mostly, we had fun chatting and sewing and chomping a little chocolate, too! Here, below, am I wearing a funny tee shirt that I had made up for me.
And yes, you are right if you guessed that I had brought in that Grand Illusions quilt beside me to show it to Pauline who hadn't seen it before. Pauline loved it! Thank you, Bonnie Hunter!!!
It was last year's Bonnie K. Hunter mystery. If you'd like the pattern for this stunning quilt, here is the link. Soon, in October, Bonnie will be starting a new mystery with discussions on colors and an introduction.
So now I'm off to visit the Friday Quilters with Claire. Hmmmm, I'd better refill those endless chocolate dispensers, LOL!
Happy quilting!
