Field Trip To Gerald Roy Exhibit

Friday was clear, then cloudy, then windy, and cold! But the few stray snowflakes did not stop Grace and me from our goal to see the small quilts and doll quilts of the Gerald Roy collection.
You may recall the Pilgrim & Roy collection shown at the MFA in Boston earlier this summer? Some of these are on view at the Upton Chandler House Museum in Warner, New Hampshire until December 7th.

We were thrilled with the breadth of the display, some 92 quilts that ranged from before the Civil War right up to the 1940's.

This first one was the local guild's reproduction for a fund raiser and I liked it! We were allowed to take pictures as long as the flash was turned off, so I was gratefully taking pictures for this blog, despite low lighting conditions.

You may click on any photograph to enlarge it.

The docents were very friendly and helpful.

There were not any full bed sized quilts in the display, so that many quilts could be viewed at once in their plexiglass display cases. It was a bit challenging to fight glare reflections from the plexiglass as you can see above, but I loved the mellow vintage fabrics!

The variety of styles and patterns was dazzling.

I will be showing some more of these precious treasures, but I admit that these pictures do not do justice to the quilts in real life! If you can possibly go, it is a must see exhibit.

Happy Sewing!
