Run Away And Quilt!

Hooray! We managed to get one car rolling again! So what did I do? Why, run away and quilt, of course!
I took a UFO that I sewed together last summer and ran to Ellen Peters' Cat Whiskers Quilting Studio to rent some time on her longarm. Here is Ellen loading my Shenandoah Valley quilt top onto her machine for me.

This quilt top was made using a Jelly Roll and a couple of Charm Packs, or was it one Charm Pack?

I'm pretty sure that it is Nancy Gere for Windham who designed the fabric line. I sewed the Jelly Roll the standard way and then put the charms around the border.

As I laughed and joked with Ellen, it's all Missouri Star Quilt Company's fault! I love their Daily Deals and I get sucked into buying too many of them, LOL! Here I am, quilting along with simple loop-de-loops.

I had pieced my backing from some end cuts of 108" backing material that I'd bought on sale from Thousands Of Bolts And Only One Nut online.

Here's some of the quilting. I had chosen a variegated brown thread that I think was called Lava.

The center of the quilt was Shenandoah Valley Patriot, which is a Red, White, and Blue theme in the Civil War reproduction fabrics, but the Charm Packs were Shenandoah Valley Complete, which adds some purples and greens into the mix.

After about two hours of intense but fun quilting, my quilt was coming off the machine!

The top alone was 66" by 86", so it's a nice twin or a generous sized throw for couch potatoes like me.

The day was pleasant and clear, so when I got home, I found my kneeling pad and asked my Husband Wonderful to take my picture for you.

I trimmed and enjoyed the light breezes, but I totally forgot to take a complete picture of the backing.

What I do have for you are a couple of shots of the folded and trimmed quilt showing the quilting on the backing.

Then I remembered to take the flash off the camera to see the shadows better.

This was no stress, no hassle quilting of humming along and getting it done. I loved it! Not all of my problems are solved, but it sure was fun to run away and quilt for a few hours.

Happy Quilting!

I've been unable to quilt this past month, so I check every day to see what you're up to. Thanks so much for sharing your days with us. Love the trimming on the driveway. :)

Oh Vic, that quilt is so delightfully "humble" yet totally friendly and warm and beautiful. THAT is how quilts should be! 8-))

Good to hear you have transportation again! Yikes, I would go bonkers in one day without wheels.

Beautiful jelly-roll quilt and great job on the quilting! I wish someone near us offered their longarm to rent, but no one does. :(

The joy of a finish! (Or almost finished... get on to that binding!) I like the combination of the strips with the charm pack. Makes a nice overall design.
