Volunteer Appreciation Day

On Thursday, I received a special invitation, along with many other people, to be honored at the Volunteer Appreciation Day luncheon at the Alton, New Hampshire Senior Center.

We all feasted upon Beef Pot Roast with Brown Gravy, Mashed Potatoes, Baked Butternut Squash, with Yellow Cake with Sprinkles on the Whipped Cream Frosting.

After our dinner, there were a few fun parlor games that amused us all. Pictured below were two blindfolded volunteers that trusted us enough to be spoon fed a taste of food and then they tried to guess what it was. There was much laughter when the taster thought that the sample of orange slice was pineapple!

Before we went home, everybody squished together to take a group photograph of all our wonderful volunteers and our super director, Roney (pronounced Row NAY), who was seated.

Each volunteer was given a small white circle of paper that said "Volunteer" to wear on our lapel, and a Certificate of Appreciation, and this fabulous grease-proof Popcorn Bucket all loaded with goodies.

It was a good time and it certainly felt nice to be appreciated for teaching quilting for free at the Center every Tuesday at The Sunshine Club.

Today, I was glad to see Maureen and her progress on her newest Missouri Star Quilt Company's free video quilt. Link.

Jenny Doan called this, "Double Square Star," but it might be Road To Oklahoma blocks, too. Not sure of that, but it sure is pretty done in mostly 1930's fabrics!

As for me, I chose to do a new 16 block run of my Mile-A-Minute Log Cabin blocks all in Civil War reproductions.

These will only be 8" blocks finished in the quilt because I'm using 1½" strips from my scrap bins. The quilt will be 12 blocks by 12 blocks, so I need 144, which means 9 runs of 16 blocks each. I love working with multiples of four.

Happy quilting!

Well, I'm happy you got appreciated! Though it always looks like you're having so much fun that no appreciation is really necessary. 8)
I'm looking forward to your log cabins!

Volunteer Appreciation day looks very enjoyable. I loved those beautiful crafts in last photos. I am also a part of quilting community and recently they also hosted a fun dinner party at the local indoor Chicago venues. We presented our latest quilting projects too over there.
