Capital Quilter's Guild, Concord, NH

Shhhhhhh! Try not to giggle or pout. I have a very special treat for you.

Today was a lovely Spring day, sunny and mild with temps that soared to 71°.

According to the weatherman on Channel 9, it hasn't been this warm since late October!!!

So I took myself out to a quilt show, of course.

Some shows now prohibit camera use, but I asked first and got permission to take photos for you!

This was the Capital Quilter's Guild Show for Concord, New Hampshire.

These gorgeous quilts are just a smattering of what was displayed.

I confess to personal bias in only photographing what I liked, so you are seeing the show through my eyes.

This show was the "small" show, in competition with the big MQX held in Manchester, New Hampshire, and I preferred it for less walking, less traffic, less crime-ridden city environment.

I find that the smaller, grassroots guild shows are less commercial, friendlier, and the work on display is far less intimidating to me.

The quilts shown here that interested me were the ones that I could envision myself making and not some outlandish overdone art quilt.

Those art quilts might make everybody gasp with amazement, but they make me feel like traditional quilts aren't good enough.

I like quilts that speak to me, not talk down to me.

That's why I so thoroughly enjoyed myself here at the little show held in the gymnasium of the local community college.

Of course, I got to see my friend, Camille, from Evergreen Country Primitives Quilt Shop and picked out some Richmond Reds by Barbara Brackman.

And I also visited with Kelly from Footprints Quilt Shoppe in East Rochester, New Hampshire, and she was quick to offer to take my picture for me.

It was a great day and I am glad that I could share my travels with you!

Happy stitching!

thanks for a great show! I agree that the big shows have jaw dropping machine work on lots of art quilts, but give me a little homemade show any day. Glad you had fun and thanks for sharing with the rest of us.

Oh, yes! A great way to spend the day! And I do agree with you about those super fancy, crystal studded quilts. You can't even USE them! (so what good are they) Hee Hee! One famous quilter (I don't remember who) doesn't even have any quilts displayed in her home. She works on one of those fancy quilts, wins prizes and sells them for lots of money. I guess that's fine, but not for me. I'm not that much of a perfectionist, besides I wouldn't want to work on one quilt for a whole year!
