Wednesday's Quilty Goodness

A couple of weeks ago, I decided that I just had to use my very beautiful "Edith" layer cake by Mary Koval for Windham. I'm going to make one of those "Easy Hourglass Quilts" by Jenny Doan from Missouri Star Quilt Company. Link.

I had bought the layer cake on one of those great "Daily Deals" but I cut and pressed on the diagonals of my own solid tan.

These steps look so innocently easy in the video as Jenny buzzes along making one or two blocks! In reality, it takes lots of time to accomplish enough for the whole quilt, LOL!

But I got a good start on it. Here's my first effort:

Sue, below right, from our Sunshine Club on Tuesdays, has started a new strippy quilt in blues. She was commiserating with me about how the simplest quilts still take a lot of time to do.

You can see the huge volume of strips she has already sewn piled on the floor of the Alton, New Hampshire Senior Center.

Bev, above left, had been doing some drawings and calculating for the sashings on her Tee shirt quilt, but kinda got sidetracked helping Kayla (pronounced K EYE la) with her scraps.
Kayla is not pictured because she was off helping to set the tables for our Continental Breakfast Buffet.

Pauline, below left, joined us and was working on knitting her pretty pink scarf.

Then today, I took Sue's Dresden Plate top over to Ellen Peters' Cat's Whiskers Quilting Studio to get it quilted.

Ellen, pictured above and below, helped me by loading the quilt top onto her longarm and we selected a light lavender thread for both the bobbin and the top thread.

It was a very warm day and humid, but Ellen had two very large fans going to keep the studio pleasant.

The top was 95" by 95" square, so it will be a nice sized queen.

I did a free hand medium sized loop-de-loop and it came out great. But I was very happy to go home and hide out in my air conditioning, LOL!

Matthew's quilt blocks have been sort set aside, so I began to work on those some more so that it doesn't become a UFO. I think that I need some twenty-odd more units. Got to, "Git 'er done!"

Hope you made some progress on your projects, too, and that you can stay cool in this surly heat wave!

Happy quilting!

That's how I'm doing the hourglass blocks for my Ohio stars - only smaller scale, of course! 8)

I loved the quilt I did with the Disappearing Hourglass pattern. It looks like a fun day of sewing.
