Sew & Sews Group

Wednesday was great fun at the Sew & Sews sit'n'sew group that is held at the Woodside building of the prestigious Taylor Community in Laconia, New Hampshire.
I brought along several of my triple green panels of 1 1/2" strips of dark green, medium green, and light green that I had already sewn together. Jean Vaillancourt and I have been working on getting them from the membership and making them ourselves, too, for a community comfort quilt. We are doing a scrappy rail fence in all shades of greens. These panels all got cut up into the 3 1/2" blocks and I was thrilled that I came up with almost 100 of them.
These two craft work  rooms at Woodside are connected by double French doors. That closet holds the ironing board and iron when we are not there using it. Sue, Jean, Cindy, Sharon, and Judy were in one room,
all busily working on various comfort quilts. They were also assembling a twenty-year anniversary quilt for "New Beginnings," which is the women's shelter.
As for me, Jane and Sally and Margaret and I were all spilled over into the second room that has a sink if you need water for your spray bottle.
Remember that teal fabric that I mentioned buying at Keepsake Quilting the day before? Well here it is in all of it's 15% off of full retail glory! LOL! That means it was still too expensive!
I liked it for its lively whimsical pattern as well as the deep teal color. I had been shopping for just the right thing to use as the narrow inner border on the little Hugs & Kisses quilt top.
Okay, okay, so I just bought it because it has stars printed on it! LOL! You know me. I'll buy anything with stars on it, no matter how trite they look, I LOVE THEM!!!
I chose a really narrow 1 1/2" border for the teal and got them all cut out there at Woodside yesterday afternoon.
Can you read my shirt that says, "Bite Me!"? I love this shirt and when folks raise their eyebrows after they read it, I remind them that I'm also the Animal Control Officer for Gilmanton and Belmont. It's the perfect shirt for me! LOL
That's "Scottie" in the foreground, my Singer Featherweight, made at the Kilbowie factory in Clydebank, Scotland on October 17th, 1951. That was my 2nd birthday! I love my Featherweight.

This morning I awoke, "full of piss and vinegar," as my Dad used to say, and started putting borders onto the Hugs and Kisses quilt top. I surprised myself by getting them all on before I needed to quit to take Felix to his Dr. John Vignati appointment for a new blistered sore on his foot.
They teased me about being Felix's "URN", UN-Registered Nurse. LOL! Hey, if it gets him better, I'm happy to do it!
Here's the border work for you to ogle.
I know, I know. More stars, right? I swear I can't resist them. Please ignore that obnoxious sunlight streaky blob on the quilt on the photo above.
I wondered if the mis-matched scrappy cream colored middle border would be distracting. But I think you don't even notice it.
It is just 60" square and I'm wondering still just how I want it quilted.
I love optical illusion quilts and this one is great fun; sometimes you see the hugs, sometimes you see the kisses.
Those little white things that you can see along the upper row are just my row-marker slips of paper pinned on that I used during the construction. I think I want it quilted in a golden brown colored thread but beyond that, I'm clueless. As my Dad also used to say, "We'll see. And that's final!"
