January Thaw

My attention span is shorter than a Bonnie Hunter mystery. At this time during January, it is the most dangerous for my abandoning the project. I'm calling upon all my inner reserves of self-discipline to stay the course. Just two "A" blocks per day.

In between the clues, when I had completed the clue and had a few days left over, I started a giant scale log cabin with 2 1/2" strips. I got 24 blocks done for a 4 by 6 setting. The blocks will finish at 12", so that would be 60" by 90" for a nice twin.

Or so I thought! I was talking it over with Felix, and he thought it would be a much better idea to make the next twelve blocks, do a 6 by 6 block setting for a 90" by 90" queen. Since I had done these from Keepsake Quilting's sale strips, I needed a little more chocolate brown fabric.

Now, remember, if you are buying fabric to complete an ongoing project, it doesn't count against your "No-Buy" pledge. So when I was out running errands and getting my belated flu shot, I stopped at The Quilted Frog quilt shop. It was fun to pick out some nice rich browns that were NOT Civil War reproductions.

That one in the center of the clothesline is really beautifully patterned with cream and just a touch of red.
You can click on any picture to enlarge it.
So I'm steady on course making my two-a-day and now have 12 made and pressed.
But I'm hoping very much that this January thaw will melt off the thickly packed snow on my wonderful layout area, er, driveway, that is. LOL! My neighbor, Al, was kind enough to plow us when Felix's plow truck has been down, but Al's plow is set way higher than Felix's.

The above shot was taken from my doorway looking down towards the mailbox.

If the predicted rains come, it may turn it all to ice. UGH! I love snow, but I hate ice.

When things like this start to bother me, I consult my stress-relief professional, Raven.

Her advice is to take any problem and sleep on it; it will be better after your nap! LOL!

Stay the course, Vic. It will be worth it in the end. Your blocks are looking so good! I just made my first one last night and don't like my contrast. I'm rethinking.
I like your rationale on the exception to the "No Buy" policy. Works for me!! That is a lovely brown.
Raven is a wise counselor. You are lucky to have her advice--and example! : )

Keep going with your Easy Street! You'll be glad you did. Both my flimsies are waiting to be quilted, which probably won't happen for a while as I need to hone my quilting skills first. I love the colours you used. Also - BRILLIANT idea for a giant log cabin - I need to use up some 2.5" strips and will copy your idea for a twin quilt. While you are buried in snow, we are sweltering in 38 deg C with bush fires everywhere!

I'm struggling along, too, Vic, trying to stay motivated with Easy Street blocks. Yours look just beautiful. I love how you so carefully arranged the blocks to repeat fabrics. I can hardly wait to see several of you blocks together. I hope your driveway dries SOON! Keep at it. Your quilt will be fabulous!

Slow and steady. I finished my top this evening. The "b" blocks went together much faster than the A's if that makes you feel better. It just took me a day and a half to do those.

I am waiting for our 73 degree weather here in NC this weekend. LOL

Happy Quilting.

I love your blocks Vic. We have been lucky so far, all rain, no snow or ice. I'm just beginning to get back in the swing of things. Hope to be back on my Easy Street and Orca Bay soon. Have a great day.

Your blocks look wonderful Vic. Give me some motivation as I have yet to make 1 block!! Too many projects going on at once. Oh, I just want to wrap my arms around Raven! and give her a big smooch!

Keep going, girlfriend! But one thing to remember: making 16 + 9 blocks per the Easy Street pattern yields a BIG quilt. I wish I'd figured that out before I assembled and bordered my blocks.

Hi Vic, I made 2 block A's today. I see what you mean. Very time consuming. If I start early in the morning I should be able to make 3 blocks a day!! HaHa. Little by little we'll get there......

Hi Vic, Keep up the good work on the Block A's. The browns you purchased look nice and rich and of course we let you off the hook regarding the "No Buy" pledge. After all, you want to finish the project, not have a UFO! LOL
