Settle Your Fabric Down

A former folksong addict back in college, I often burst into song whilst driving along in my car. Sometimes, just for fun, I make up new lyrics to songs that I know, like these new lyrics that I created for the classic song, "Settle Down." It was written by Mike Settle and performed by Peter, Paul, and Mary, on their "Moving" album. This is my version:

Settle Your Fabric Down

I went into a quilt shop,
With my checkbook in my hand.
When I left there,
I owned yards to spare,
For a quilt I had not planned!

Why don't you help me, Brother,
I'm a stranger in your town;
Why don't you help me, Sister,
And maybe I'll settle down!

To be a good Stashbuster
Don't spend all of your cash.
See what can be found,
When you look around,
And organize your fabric stash!

Why don't you help me, Brother,
I'm a stranger in your town;
Why don't you help me, Sister,
And maybe I'll settle down!

I find myself on Ebay,
Pushing buttons left and right.
When the bills came in,
It was almost a sin,
And my husband's face turned white!

Why don't you help me, Brother,
I'm a stranger in your town;
Why don't you help me, Sister,
And maybe I'll settle down!

Leave your own computer,
Make this madness stop!
Don't order more;
Use what's in store,
And sew another quilt top!

Why don't you help me, Brother,
I'm a stranger in your town;
Why don't you help me, Sister,
And maybe I'll settle down!
     -Victoria Carroll-Parkhill
Stay calm and quilt on!
