Here & There

Thank you, Grace, so much for your lesson in paper piecing! This morning, after breakfast, I began working on that "It-Must-Be-Perfect" quilt block for next year's pineapple raffle quilt for the Belknap Mill Quilter's Guild. http://bmqg.org/
I am so thrilled to be allowed to participate in the raffle quilt this year and I want to do a good job. But I sure was nervous about tackling it.
I'm not finished with this batik pineapple but here you may see how far I've gotten today:

I still find the process of paper piecing rather fiddly and nerve-wracking as I am painfully slow at checking each step of fold, flip, trim, pin, and sew. But I must admit that the results are awesomely accurate.

I'd like to give a big shout-out "THANK YOU" to Michele in Gaithersburg, Maryland for her wonderful gift to me of the little clear yellow "Add-A-Quarter" ruler. It is working great for me, Michele, thank you so very much!
Today was also a beautiful day to take advantage of the "Christmas in July" sale at The Mothership, also known as Keepsake Quilting shop in Center Harbor, New Hampshire.
I bought about 5 1/2 yards total as these remnant pieces from the Outlet Store there. They are so artfully trimmed in ecru raffia, all Civil War reproductions.
But on the way home, I had to go right past The Quilted Frog quilt shop, too. They were on their last day of their big July sale as well.
The Quilted Frog is right in Weir's Beach, a village of Laconia, New Hampshire and it is co-owned by Jody Saulnier and Sue Dibona, two great gals who also happen to be guild members.
Here they are waiting on me at the cutting table as we all joked about my fabric junkie habits. You can see the light floral (of course!) neutral there, and my medium golden brown, and some of the deep green that will go onto that double four patch as a binding.

Jody, in the pink top, has an excellent Janome 6500 for a cool $500 and it has all the bells and whistles. It's just been serviced and the only reason she is selling it is because she bought a bigger one at the trade show. So if you know anybody that's looking for a sweetheart deal, call her at (603) 366-5600. Tell Jody I sent you. She'll probably charge you extra! LOL!

So that's how I spent my quilty day. I guess I'll do anything to avoid hemming my binding!

Oh, Ms. Victoria - the Pineapple is simply gorgeous!!! Yes, fiddly, but end result is stunning. I LOVE this block - my machine has tuo thread cutter, a definite benefit to PPiecing. The Batiks you are using crank it up several notches! Keep it up.

I did one about a year ago, blocks about 5 inches, and I made one each morning, taking about 30 minutes each, but like potato chips, once started, I could NOT stop. Would like to make another one and even have the paper ready! I had a LOT of strips (ala Bonnie Hunter) already cut for ... whatever.

I enjoyed reading about your quilting day and loved visiting Keepsake again, if only by blog. The porch looks lovely as ever. The Quilted Frog looks like a fun shop to visit and I wish I lived a bit closer. Your pineapple block for the quilt raffle is awesome! Thanks for sharing the step by step process. I didn't know how that block went together until I saw your post. ☺
